TRR332 lab open their doors for school kids

On Germany's National Holiday labs of the TRR332 resumed the tradition of participating in the ‘Maustag’.  The heartwarming initiative, called 'Türen auf mit der Maus', encouraged hundreds of organizations to participate, including the Münster based ZMBE (Center for Molecular Biology of Inflammation), returning after a pandemic break. TRR 332 not only sponsored the event financially but also hosted school kids in their labs. Namely, the teams Tim Lämmermann, Oliver Soehnlein, and Carlos Silvestre prepared age-appropriate educational experiences for aspiring young scientists. The “workshops", led by lab members specialized in molecular biology and inflammation, granted visiting children unique access to real laboratory equipment and facilities.

Across five tour sessions to 7 different institutes, young participants discovered real-world applications of scientific principles and methods used by dedicated researchers. By engaging in hands-on experimentation and exploring actual laboratory settings, we hope the children develop a deeper curiosity/understanding of essential biological concepts. Through this meaningful experience, the ZMBE aimed to encourage curiosity and foster a growing appreciation for molecular biology and inflammation studies among younger generations.
