TRR 332 PI awarded the 2025 TÜBA Academy Prize for Groundbreaking Blood-Brain Barrier Research

We congratulate Prof. Dr. Dirk M. Hermann, PI in our network and Professor of Vascular Neurology, Dementia and Ageing Research at the University of Duisburg-Essen, on receiving the 2025 TÜBA Academy Prize in the Health and Life Sciences.

The prestigious award from the Turkish Academy of Sciences (TÜBA) honours Prof. Hermann’s internationally recognised work on the blood–brain barrier, particularly the molecular mechanisms that regulate permeability and immune–brain interactions. His research provides important insights relevant to neuroinflammation, stroke, and neurodegenerative diseases.

The TÜBA Academy Prize was conferred in Ankara on 23 December 2025 in a ceremony livestreamed on Turkish television, attended by around 4,000 guests and highlights Prof. Hermann’s outstanding contributions to translational neuroscience.

Prof. Hermann continues to bridge fundamental insight with clinical relevance. His work helps redefine how the scientific community thinks about brain barriers — not merely as obstacles to drug delivery but as dynamic regulatory systems that can be harnessed to improve outcomes for patients with neurological diseases.
